Lucentis Clinical Trial Patient Profile

Interview Transcript "I was diagnosed with macular degeneration. When I was first diagnosed, I couldn't even see the big 'E' on the chart with that eye.

Dr. Stone told me I would need treatment for that. My daughter works for a retina doctor, so she suggested to him to try the Lucentis® (ranibizumab injection). Dr. Stone started giving me the injections once a month.

At the beginning, my sight in my right eye was 20/800. After the first two or three injections, it got better and better, and after I had seven injections, it's 20/25 now. I can see about the last line on the chart, so it's improved greatly.

For about twenty or twenty-five years, I've enjoyed doing cross-stitching; I never have really had to stop doing it because of my eye, but it's made it so much better since my eyes have improved so much."

Product Indication: Lucentis is a prescription medicine for the treatment of patients with wet age-related macular degeneration.

Important Safety Information:
Lucentis is contraindicated in patients with ocular or periocular infections. Intravitreal injections, including those with Lucentis, have been associated with endophthalmitis and retinal detachment. Increases in intraocular pressure (IOP) have been noted within 60 minutes of intravitreal injection.

Serious adverse events included endophthalmitis, and, rarely, events related to the injection procedure such as rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, and iatrogenic traumatic cataract. In clinical trials, most common ocular side effects included conjunctival hemorrhage, eye pain, and vitreous floaters. Most common nonocular side effects included hypertension, nasopharyngitis, headache, and upper respiratory tract infection.
